This Tumbler Replica From ‘The Dark Knight’ Is up for Auction

It’s a special day for car enthusiasts and Batman fans. Why? An immaculate replica of the Batmobile Tumbler from the iconic Christian Bale Batman films Batman Begins and The Dark Knight is up for auction. Does life get any better than this?
Even if you are not a Batman fan, how do you resist a vehicle that looks this freaking cool? It has a jet engine hanging off the rear, for crying out loud. It’s time to bust out your savings and throw down for this bad boy!
The auction for this singular armored vehicle runs until Wednesday, November 27, at 4:34 AM. As of this writing, the highest bid is $25,300. So, you don’t have to have a Bruce Wayne-sized bank account to take this baby home.
The Tumbler

According to the auction listing on Bring a Trailer, this Tumbler replica hails from Vietnam. Currently, the vehicle is located in Ontario, Canada. It is up for auction at no reserve and comes with a bill of sale.
Anyone familiar with Christopher Nolan’s massively successful Dark Knight trilogy will remember the Tumbler. It made its memorable debut in 2005s Batman Begins.
Nolan and the movie’s production designer, Nathan Crowley, like many filmmakers, drew aesthetic inspiration from the sci-fi cult classic Blade Runner in bringing the Tumbler to the big screen. Some of this vehicle’s eye-catching design cues include hydraulically articulated flaps, faceted, black-plated armor, and, of course, a rear-mounted jet engine.
Exterior

The auction listing states that this replica’s body is made out of stainless steel. Its paint job, in proper Batmobile replica fashion, consists of matte black and gold accents. The Tumbler features acrylic windows and decorative panels covered with reflective tint film.
Unlike in the film, the replica’s doors open skyward, like an Italian sports car. Still, it has a jet engine-style rear cover. So, at least its designers got that right. The listing does note the paint job has some “irregularities” in it, along with some wrinkles in the tint film.
However, could this be a true Batmobile if it didn’t have some scratches in it? Vigilante crime-fighting vehicles wear those as a badge of honor.
Interior

The cabin features black bucket seats and Takata harnesses. The dashboard and center console extensively feature black vinyl, of course. Like any Batmobile, this Tumbler replica features its fair share of gadgets and gizmos.
Decorative knobs and switches line the dashboard. There are four monitors that connect to cameras with front, back, left, and right-side views. The current owner replaced the screens and wiring in the center console at ECC Tuning in Toronto. The interior also includes a Bluetooth sound system and red LED lighting.
While the replica’s steering yoke looks the part, its dials and buttons are not actually functional. For that matter, neither is the vehicle’s digital speedometer. According to the listing, it does not provide accurate readings. This Tumbler replica also comes without an odometer.
The Motor

According to the listing, a 5-kWh lithium-ion battery sends juice to a 72-volt electric motor that powers the rear wheels. The replica’s top speed is around 62 mph. It’s too bad the rear-mounted jet isn’t functional like in the movies.
A 3,000-Ah lithium-ion battery sends power to the rest of the Tumbler’s 12-volt accessories. According to the listing, the vehicle’s charging port is located near the rear suspension loop. In classic caped crusader fashion, this vehicle is not road-legal.
As such, it does not have a standard 17-digit VIN, registration, or title. Batmobiles don’t need such pedestrian things.
