If Your $5 Bill Has These 3 Things, It Could Be Worth Thousands

When you pull cash out of your wallet, does it ever occur to you to closely inspect the bills? If not, you could be missing out big time. In addition to the rarer $5 bills out there worth thousands of dollars, some of the newly minted $5 bills could be worth more.A Hidden Secret
Most people don’t pay much attention to the serial numbers in the upper right and lower left-hand corner, they just hand it over to the cashier or the bank and go about their merry day. However, those serial numbers could be hiding a secret: even more money.
Let Me in on It!
How, you ask? Simple. Take a glance at the number on your bill and look for these things:
1. High or Low Serial Numbers
Low numbers, such as 00000100 or 00000001, are worth more. In fact, according to SavingAdvice.com, some have fetched up to $15,000. Similarly, high numbers tend to fetch significantly more than the face value of a $5 bill, mostly because they’re rare to see in circulation.
2. Solid Serial Numbers
Solid serial numbers are exactly what they sound like, where each of the eight digits is the same number. These tend to go for thousands on eBay.
3. Ladder Serial Numbers
Ladder serial numbers are those that go up in consecutive order: 01234567, 12345678, 23456789, and so on. They also go in descending order: 98765432, 87654321, or 76543210. It seems as though collectors are happy to seek these out and willing to spend thousands to get them.
Want To See if Your Money Has a Cool Serial Number?
This is mostly for entertainment, but you can visit the Fancy Serial Number Checker on My Currency Collection. Simply plug in the number and it will give you a rating on a scale from 1% to 100% as to how “cool” it is and some interesting facts that might make it worth more. The only real way to tell is to visit a dealer and have them give you a quote. Just note (see what I did there?) that it’s rare to come upon one worth thousands, but that doesn’t mean you should stop looking.
