    It’s *nix, can be anything like SunOS, OEL just that they are different flavors. Unix is everything, Linux was derived after Unix – so what recruiters mean is by Unix that says one of Sun Solaris, AIX, UX. Those are Unix based OS and for Linux, you have RHEL, Ubuntu etc.

    Due to macOS’ roots in Unix, I have met some Linux/Unix admins who enjoy using Macs as their personal devices. And often Linux admin skillsets transfer to macOS administration.

    Linux is a UNIX Clone. But if you consider Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX) standards then Linux can be considered as UNIX. To quote from Official Linux kernel README file: Linux is a Unix clone written from scratch by Linus Torvalds with assistance from a loosely-knit team of hackers across the Net.
