13 Fastest Chevys in the World in 2024

2024 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

The Bowtie has long been a symbol of an unwavering quest for velocity, the pursuit of engineering excellence embodied by exceedingly fast cars. The need for speed isn’t a newfound obsession for Chevrolet. You could say the automaker caught the performance bug as far back as the golden era of American muscle, leading to the birth of icons like the Corvette in 1953 and the Camaro in 1966.

The automotive landscape has changed significantly since the ‘60s glory days of the Chevelle SS, but Chevy’s American spirit, exemplified by the stunningly powerful C8 Corvette, signals an unrelenting push towards making blistering performance accessible to more than just the privileged few.

Today, we celebrate the fastest cars in 2024 wearing the Bowtie, including modified versions like the Hennessey Camaro. These selections are based on top speed.

  • Top Speed: 220 MPH

The Resurrection happened because it’s unthinkable for John Hennessey to show up at the SEMA show with anything less than scorch-earth performance figures. You could never have prepared for what John and his gang of tuners had under their sleeves– a 1,200-horsepower Camaro based on the track-focused ZL1 1LE.

In other words, the Resurrection held a substantial 200 horsepower over the Exorcist that Hennessey showed off at the show two years earlier. Hennessey based the Exorcist on the Camaro ZL1, equipping it with a 6.4-liter supercharged LT4 V8 that released 1,014 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 966 lb-ft of torque at 4,500 rpm.

With the 1LE package providing the Resurrection’s foundation, Hennessey swapped the ZL1’s original LT4 V8 for the LT5, good for 755 horsepower in stock form. That was the same engine energizing the C7 Corvette ZR1.

By the time Hennessey Performance was done working the LT5 with CNC billet aluminum throttle bodies and a 2.65-liter supercharger, the ZL1 Resurrected with the fires of 1,200 horsepower under its custom carbon fiber-covered hood. We better move to the next one.

  • Top Speed: 217 MPH

The Hennessey Exorcist is a ‘more-performance,’ tuned version of the already formidable Camaro ZL1, a sinister creation of the American tuning company Hennessey Performance Engineering. In standard form, the Camaro ZL1 benefited from a supercharged 6.2-liter V8, which Hennessey upgraded extensively to ‘exorcise’ the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. They didn’t have to say it; everyone knew it.

The Demon was and still is the most powerful muscle car at the time, and Hennessey hatched the Exorcist for you know why. The Exorcist’s tools included a larger high-flow supercharger and intercooler system that helped bless the 650-hp LT4 with 1000 horsepower at the crank and 883 horsepower at the rear wheels. We should probably move on to the next Chevy.

2019 Corvette ZR1 (With Wing Spoiler)

  • Top Speed: 214 MPH

When the ZR1 was born in 2019, it was the most powerful and fastest factory Corvette, the apex predator of the C7 lineup. It was also the last ‘Vette to use the traditional front-engine layout before the C8 made the highly controversial transition to a mid-engine design in 2020.

It got motivation from a supercharged 6.2-liter LT5 V8 engine capable of an impressive 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft of torque. It was an evolved LT4, which powered the phenomenal Corvette Z06. Mated to a 7-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed paddle-shift automatic, this LT5 helped make the Corvette ZR1 one of the fastest and most powerful production cars of that time.

It ‘helped’ because the ZR1 owes a great deal of its zest to aerodynamics. It came with two aero packages, including the standard Low Wing package (prepped to deliver the highest top speed) and an optional High Wing package for maximum downforce and part of the ZTK Performance Package.

The ZL1 is essentially a street-legal race car built for speed and agility. Customers can choose between a six-speed manual gearbox and a 10-speed automatic. The 2024 ZL1 Camaro represents a modern marriage of raw power and advanced technology, imbued with the muscle car spirit.

Backed by a 650-hp 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine generating 650 lb-ft of torque, the ZL1 can send the Camaro barreling to 60 mph in 4 seconds and achieve an estimated 200 mph top speed.

Get the 1LE Extreme Track Performance package and take advantage of an adjustable suspension, extreme performance tires, and weight-reducing carbon fiber enhancements. Chevrolet also marked the end of production in January 2024 with a special Collector’s Edition limited to just 350 examples.

  • Top Speed: Over 200 MPH est.

The latest Z06 gets motivation from a free-breathing 5.5-liter V8 with a flat-plane crank that generates 670 horsepower. What many gearheads find most exceptional about the Z06 is its track-oriented design and yet comfortable daily driver. The Corvette Z06 is a high-performance sports car boasting a glorious 8,500 rpm redline you could buy for less than $115,000.

If we had the cash, you’d have to stop us with a gun to our heads from getting the optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R ZP race tires. For the 2024 model year, the Z06 introduces new colors, including Riptide Blue Metallic, Cacti Green, and Sea Wolf Gray Tricoat. It is 3.5 inches wider than the Stingray, partly the reason we want those race tires.

2024 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

  • Top Speed: 194 MPH est.

For the 2024 model year, the Stingray did not fail its mission of continuing the iconic American sports car’s legacy. The most impressive aspect of the new Stingray’s story is its insane performance-per-dollar ratio. It features a quick-shifting 8-speed dual-clutch transmission mated to a 495-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine generating 470 lb-ft of torque.

This powertrain enables the 2024 Stingray to race to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, translating to supercar performance for less than $69,000. That’s what we meant by “insane performance-per-dollar ratio.” It clocked the quarter mile at 11.2 seconds.

  • Top Speed: 183 MPH

The E-Ray Hybrid is the first electric Corvette as well as the first ‘Vette to use an AWD configuration. It combines a 6.2-liter V8 with an electric motor to deliver 655 horsepower, with the motor powering the front wheels.

According to the UK’s EVO magazine, the E-Ray has a reported top speed of 183 mph, notwithstanding the front wheels can’t go beyond 150 mph. The car can sneak (in Stealth Mode) up to 4 miles on electric power at speeds up to 45 mph. The E-Ray’s performance capability is remarkable considering its year-round utility.

2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport

  • Top Speed: 181 MPH est.

The Grand Sport filled the performance gap between the Stingray and the more extreme Z06 and ZR1 models. It relied on a free-breathing 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine producing 460 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. The standard gearbox was a 7-speed manual transmission with active rev matching, with an optional 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission.

Though introduced four years ago, the Grand Sport remains one of the fastest Chevys to ever do it. It could sprint from rest to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of approximately 181 mph. The Driver Series special edition added color and graphics packages inspired by Corvette Racing drivers.

2024 Chevrolet Camaro SS

  • Top Speed: 165 MPH est.

The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro SS continues the Camaro’s legacy with a 455-hp 6.2-liter LT1 V8 engine producing 455 lb-ft of torque. You’d love to hear that Chevrolet paired the engine with a 6-speed manual shifter with Active Rev Matching or an optional 10-speed automatic transmission.

The SS offers the 1LE Track Performance Package with performance-enhancing features like Magnetic Ride Control, dual-mode performance exhaust, Brembo brakes, and RECARO performance seats. Since it is the last model year for the 6th-gen Camaro, Chevrolet offers the Collector Edition as a tribute to the Camaro’s storied history of power, performance, and speed.

2017 Chevrolet SS

  • Top Speed: 160 MPH est.

The SS may rank low in a gathering of the fastest Chevy models ever made, but it won over a loyal fan base who still praise its powerful V8 engine, refined handling, and well-equipped interior. The 2017 Chevrolet SS is a proud full-size performance sedan introduced for the first time in 2014.

Just one look at the car and you could immediately tell it is related to the Australian Holden Commodore. The SS was, in fact, a rebranded Commodore with slight modifications for the US market. 2017 was the SS’s final year, and it hid a 415-hp LS3 6.2-liter V8 engine underneath its laidback façade.

Chevrolet Cobalt SS

  • Top Speed: 158 MPH est.

The Cobalt got a high-performance SS variant that offered various engine options throughout its production run, most notably the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four that produced around 260 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.

The Cobalt was a sporty Chevy with sport-tuned suspension, performance brakes, and other handling-focused enhancements. It may not be the most powerful or the fastest car to leave Chevrolet’s factory, but there’s no denying the Cobalt’s popularity among cash-strapped enthusiasts looking for a fun-to-drive compact car. The Chevrolet Cruze replaced it in 2010.

  • Top Speed: 155 MPH est.

The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro LT1 feels somewhat like a restomod due to its captivating blend of classic muscle car persona and modern performance. It shares the SS’s 6.2-liter LT1 V8 with 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque.

The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox with Active Rev Matching or an optional 10-speed automatic transmission. Customers who wish to stand out a little bit can get the RS package with cosmetic upgrades like high-intensity LED headlamps and a polished Black grille with Galvano chrome lower inserts.

2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS

  • Top Speed: 150 MPH est.

The 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS was a sporty coupe with enough credentials to get a seat on this list, albeit at the far end of the table. Besides its 5.3-liter V8 engine with a decent 303 horsepower and 323 lb-ft of torque, the Monte Carlo SS emitted a satisfying exhaust note when you flatten the pedal to the metal.

It wasn’t the quickest car off the mark (making it to 60 mph in a leisurely 6.5 seconds), but the car benefited from a sport-tuned suspension, a rear spoiler, 18-inch alloy wheels, and an agile stance that spoke volumes about its potential.
