Connor McDavid Fourth-Fastest and Youngest to 1,000 Points in NHL History

Connor McDavid makes NHL history.

It’s not often a heavily-hyped prospect lives up in every way, paving their path to becoming an all-time great. Connor McDavid is an exception to that trend.

The Edmonton Oilers center didn’t just play a pivotal role in his squad’s 3-2 overtime win over the Nashville Predators Thursday, but he made history in the process. McDavid notched two points on the evening, sending him into the NHL record books as the fourth-fastest and youngest to tally 1,000 career points.

The 27-year-old has been in the NHL since he was 19, and has seven seasons on his resume in which he has registered at least 100 points. The seven-time All-Star joins an elite group of players in reaching the milestone, and did so in a manner that blows past some of his fellow active future Hall of Famers.

Oilers fans took to social media after the game to celebrate the feat, as McDavid’s play has the Oilers sitting three points back of first place in the Pacific Division.

While he notched the accomplishment with his goal in the second period, he also played a part in giving Edmonton the win. He assisted Darnell Nurse on his second score of the game, clinching the overtime win at home.

McDavid has 341 career goals alongside 659 assists. And while becoming the 99th player to register 1,000 career points is, of course, impressive, there’s always a reminder another Edmonton legend still maintains bragging rights.

Gretzky may have beaten McDavid to 1,000 points by more than 200 games, but McDavid will put his focus on getting the Oilers to their second straight Stanley Cup Finals so he can hoist the trophy for the first time.
