Ram 1500 REV Electric Pickup Truck on Hold

2024 Ram 1500 REV

When Ram unveiled the Ram 1500 REV concept at CES 2023, the automotive world went into overdrive. This all-electric pickup truck promised to change the way we see EVs. It claimed to outperform competitors in range, payload, towing capacity, and charging times. Essentially, it promised to be a revolution on wheels. Unfortunately, that revolution will have to wait a little longer.

Initially scheduled for a late 2024 launch – so, just about right now – the Ram 1500 REV has been delayed until at least the first half of 2025. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares blamed the delay on a “significant amount of workload” and the company’s desire to be “prudent” in the validation process. In other words, the Ram 1500 REV is not ready for prime time.

This will be hugely disappointing for many customers who have already been waiting a while for their truck. Sure, Stellantis has a lot on its plate, with several highly anticipated EV launches in the pipeline. The electric Dodge Charger Daytona is about to start shipping, the Jeep Wagoneer S is next, and, of course, the Ram 1500 REV was supposed to be heading to the dealerships as we speak. This will ruin Christmas for plenty of people out there – sorry, folks.

The Ram 1500 REV will be built on Stellantis’s new STLA Frame platform, designed specifically for upcoming Ram and Jeep EVs. This platform is capable of delivering up to 500 miles of range in standard EVs and up to a staggering 690 miles in range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs).

While the Ram 1500 REV won’t have the full 690-mile range, it’s still expected to impress. Powered by a huge 168 kWh battery pack, the truck is projected to have a range of over 350 miles. It’s also expected to have a maximum towing capacity of up to 14,000 lbs and a 2,700 lb max payload. That means you can haul your boat to the lake or your trailer to the campsite without breaking a sweat. You’ll just have to wait a wee bit longer to test its towing skills.

There’s absolutely no doubt the Ram 1500 REV will be a truly impressive truck. Many of us here in the office can’t wait to get behind the wheel. The delay is a bit of a bummer, but if it lives up to its promises, it will be worth the wait. Good things come to those who wait? We sure hope so.
