23 Fall Fashion Trends You Can Actually Wear

Two trendy women standing side-by-side on the sidewalk, in trendy Fall fashions and colors.

Fall is here and that means a bit more versatility in how you dress, with the need to layer up. But, it’s also a season where it’s easy to fall into the trap of the same old warm clothing. Boring.

So, we’ve dug into some expert opinions from the likes of Vogue and Cosmopolitan to see what’s hot. We’ve also kept an eye on TikTok and other social media to see what’s trending and what to avoid.

This year is all about a ‘real world’ aesthetic; fantastical designs are taking the back seat this year.

Stylish Suits

You might associate suave suits with business types and meeting rooms rather than fall, but nothing fits this year’s ‘real world’ trends quite like a classic suit outside of its usual setting. But as much as designers say they’re being ‘real’, they can’t help but twist on things. This is why contemporary suits with neckties will be loved this season.

We advise you to opt for unexpected accessories and oversized silhouettes, to break the capitalistic look.

Camo

Pharrell Williams recently collaborated with Louis Vuitton for a contemporary twist on camouflage. It seems to have triggered a fall 2024 camo trend. We wouldn’t expect you to wear some of the crazy designs seen on the runways, but you could try to integrate some camo pants into your outfit this fall. Or a camo handbag. Style it with some leather boots and you’ll be on trend.

British Country

Country is in this fall, but not the cowboy hat-wielding type of country; no, instead it’s the British countryside variety. Tweed, argyles, and oversized knitted sweaters are ideal entry points, at reasonable price ranges if thrifted. Try skirts and buckled ballet flats to complete the look.

We advise you to browse eBay, Vinted, Depop, and Etsy to find an outfit from a fancy brand that still screams “I’m a posh Brit”. Now you just need a Landrover to complete the look.

Liquid Leather

Here’s some clothing you likely already have waiting in your wardrobe – leather. Leather has dominated the global runways this year, with glossy finishes and vinyl designs catching the most attention. Experts say black is always in, but this year extra style points go to blues, greens, and browns.

Leather clothing searches have increased by 25% since fashion month.

Striking Necklines

2024 is the year of ‘extravagant collars’. The 2024 runways saw oversized collars and necklines that offer both great wind protection and a sense of mystery. So get out your biggest turtle neck, your pie-crust collar shirt, or that leather jacket with the strap-up collar. That shouldn’t stop you from wearing a pendant or a necklace on top either.

Paper-Bag Boots

Paper bag boots are not made of paper (what a relief). But they offer a roomy shape that gives the appearance of something like a bag, with a sophisticated twist. They were everywhere during the 2024 fall runways, even offering options in leather and chainmail.

If you want your feet to really look part of the trend this fall, this could be your statement purchase.

Fur and Feather Top Coats

If you want to go wild, try oversized, extravagant faux fur, feather, and fabric winter coats. These top coats will attract attention and are ideal for a night out. However, we suggest going one step further and just wearing it while doing groceries or a trip to the coffee shop.

Burgundy Bags

Color returned to the ‘quiet luxury’ aesthetic this year, with plenty of burgundy-colored bags. They offer a great way to add subtle color to any outfit that you feel is a bit stale – whether it’s a clutch, leather tote, or shoulder bag. Brands like Bottega Veneta, Loewe, and Market have released designs while following this trend.

Big Shoulders

Big shoulders are still in. Embrace your inner David Byrne or get out your old (or your Mom’s) 80s shoulder-padded suit!

There’s a whole bunch of brands like Balenciaga and Stella McCartney who currently specialize in these designs, but this list is about clothing ‘you can actually wear’, so we’re thinking about your budget here too.

Go thrifting and head to the resale sites, and you might find a classic brand that already designed a big shoulder suit 30 years ago.

Glitter

We love it when glitter is in and thankfully it’s making a comeback. Winter and fall are set to be a glittery affair for celebs and models, with recent collections including tinsel sweaters, sparkly pants, and accented blazers.

Sequined accessories, such as a bag can also complement your style.

Dress Suits

Formal dress suits are great for a night out this fall. Cummerbunds, dress shirts, waistcoats, bowties, shiny shoes – go for it. Be clean, monochromatic, and elegant.

Some striking red lipstick is also a great option to complete the look. If you’ve got the budget, go big with the designer names; if not, then second-hand is your friend!

Jewelry

Jewelry brings outfits together and this year it’s all about sculptural metals, ‘80s-style earrings, pearls, and bold colors. Cosmopolitan says you should get creative and try pendants, on long chains or cords with statement charms. It’ll elevate your entire outfit and suit any flowy or minimal style that you feel is lacking something special.

Ski-Knits

Fall also requires you to stay warm and this year, a great solution is classic ski-inspired sweaters and cardigans. They’re going mainstream so go big, go chunky and classic. Don’t be afraid to wear an 80s-style cliche print or even a sleeveless sweater.

We advise you to go on the aforementioned resale sites or thrift stores to dig out high-quality brands that will set you apart.

Puff

The fall and winter 2024 collections are full of oversized, puffed-out skirts and dresses. The attitude is ‘bigger is better’. So don’t be afraid to dress voluminously in clothing that bursts from the waistline, because you’re going to look great. You could also go for epic puffy shoulders or a cute pink puffy coat.

Belts

Belts always offer a practical use, but this fall they’re on trend for elevating any outfit in a minimal way. Placement is crucial here, with the low-slung hip position offering a fluid image.

Metallic belts offered by Chanel and Chloé are particularly eye-catching when worn over cute knitted layers.

Double Denim

Woop, one that you almost certainly already have in your wardrobe. Great news for your bank account. But to be on trend this year, you need to be bold. Embrace it, with more and more denim. Jeans, shirts, skirts, and even handbags can be combined for that 2024 designer look. Oh and remember, oversized jeans are the way to go these days. Not skinny. Is it 2001 again?

Leopard Prints

Experts report that leopard prints have come back in big numbers. One report states that there was an increase of 75% in leopard print at this year’s fall and winter fashion month. So whether it’s a coat, dress, belt, or clutch bag, know that you can pull out your favorite leopard print item once again and be on trend.

Earthy Tones

Earthy tones are all over TikTok right now. A timeless fall look can easily be replicated with khaki, brown, olive, and even ocean blue designs. Best of all, you can combine an earthy color with pretty much any other earthy tone for an easily colored coordinated, and customizable outfit.

Men’s Fall Fashion Trends

Ok men, it’s your turn. We’ve taken a look at the top trends on the fall and winter runways, that you can actually wear and put together without breaking the bank. Though, we’re not saying you shouldn’t if you’ve got the means to do so. Ladies, feel free to stick around for the next few slides and judge with passion.

Cute Jeans

As previously mentioned for women, double denim is very much in this fall. Blue is back. Barrel jeans and skinny-ish (not super tight fits) will look great. 2024’s fashion shows brought denim back to the fore this year, with low-rise denim, chunky belts, and denim jackets seen in London and other cities.

Cozy Fluff

Cozy, warm, fuzzy, fluff – whatever name you want to give it, you get the idea. Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana showcased their own elegant furry jackets on the runways, inspiring a trend of going big and soft this year. That’s great news for those of us who love to stay warm.

Cowboy

While women’s fashion week focused on British country, the men’s side of things embraced the Western aesthetic that many American men already have in their locker. Seen on the walkways of Florence, Italy, and Pharrell Williams at Louis Vuitton earlier this year, the trend is back. Cowboy boots, stetson hats, and fringed pants. Why not?

The Gun Show

Finally, we end with something that many men will be happy to flaunt – their guns. Sleeveless tops cut at the shoulder are reportedly in this fall, so when the sun is out make the most of it. You won’t get much chance before it’s too cool. Tank tops and shirts with ripped-off sleeves are calling you.
